What is AZO AZO compound is a compound of azo group -N=N- and two alkyl groups, the general formula is R-N=N-R. Harm and limitation of AZO Many AZO azo compounds have carcinogenic effects, although some azo compounds do not cause cancer, but toxicity is similar to that of nitro compounds and aromatic amines. In order to protect human health and provide consumer safety, Holland, Austria and Germany have adopted mandatory rules to prohibit the use of azo dyes in consumer goods. In September 11, 2002 and January 6, 2003, the European Parliament and the European Commission also announced the 2002/61/EC and 2003/3/EC instructions, limiting the use of carcinogenic azo colorants in some textiles and leather products, prohibit the sale of restricted goods containing azo colorants colouring.
